ABOUT US

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church is one of the oldest Christian traditions in the world, tracing its roots back to the 4th century when Christianity was declared the state religion of the ancient Aksumite Kingdom. It is renowned for preserving ancient biblical traditions, unique liturgical practices, and its own canon of scripture, which includes books not found in most other Christian Bibles. Deeply connected to Ethiopian identity and culture, the church emphasizes fasting, prayer, and sacraments while celebrating a rich heritage of music, art, and monastic life. With millions of followers in Ethiopia and abroad, it remains a central spiritual, cultural, and historical foundation for the Ethiopian people.
